JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR® DREAMCOAT – An Amateur Youth Group Production
JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR® DREAMCOAT – An Amateur Youth Group Production
Fresh from their well-received production of Sister Act, The Sound of Musical Theatre Company are proud to present their next show Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a retelling of the biblical story of Joseph, famously written and composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. The show contains some of the most well-known numbers in musical theatre such as Jacob and Sons, Close Every Door, Go Go Go Joseph and Any Dream Will Do.

It’s clear that the show is still a firm family favourite and over the decades, many famous performers have taken on the role of Joseph including Donny Osmond, David Cassidy, Jason Donovan, Phillip Schofield and Lee Mead, winner of the BBC’s ‘Any Dream Will Do’, who incidentally will be performing at the Lowther Pavilion this April.

Synopsis In the biblical land of Caanan, Joseph is the favourite son of Jacob. As such, he encounters the jealousy of his brothers who arrange to have him killed. To prove his death, the brothers show their father Joseph’s multicoloured coat smeared with blood. However, Joseph has been sold in slavery to the household of Potiphar. Joseph's ability to interpret dreams is relayed to Pharaoh who has started to have a series of dreams. Joseph foresees seven years of full harvests and this to be followed by seven years of famine, and just as prophesied, the dreams came true.

Back in Caanan, the famine affected Joseph's family too. The brothers travel to Egypt to find work. They go to Joseph who recognises them but they don't recognise him. They bow down before him but Joseph doesn’t reveal his identity until he sees that his brothers have changed. Joseph sends for his father and the pair are reunited. Joseph wears his multicoloured coat again.

An Amateur youth group production by arrangement with The Musical Company Ltd.
