The Award Winning Christie Musical Theatre Company are proud to bring you their production of Gypsy.
Based on the 1957 memoirs of world-famous striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee, Gypsy begins at the end of the vaudeville era as overbearing stage mother Rose carts young daughters June and Louise (the young Lee) throughout the country, performing in fading venues for dwindling audiences.
Rose’s desperate desire for fame soon pushes the family to its limits, unraveling relationships, unveiling a new star, and revealing the raw power of ambition laid bare.
With six Broadway productions, a West End run and two film adaptations, Gypsy has transfixed and astounded audiences for generations, holding its place among the greatest of all American musicals.
Broadway comes to Lytham with this immersive production of GYPSY. Brought to you by the accomplished creative team of Peter Taylor, Edward Rugman & Di Barron and with a songbook bursting with classics (EVERYTHING’S COMING UP ROSES, SOME PEOPLE, ROSE’S TURN) this innovative new production is destined to surprise you.
About The Christie Musical Theatre Company -
In 2010, following the untimely loss of great friends who had been cared for by The Christie Hospital, Emma Norman and Lia Wilkinson staged a fundraising cabaret evening for the Christie Charitable Fund.
This event was hugely popular, so they next planned a West End Revue the following year - this time drawing upon a handful of talented friends from the world of Musical Theatre - alongside the amazing kids from Fylde Stage Academy (courtesy of their Principal, Di Barron).
'A Concert for Christies' was born.
Staged at Thornton Little Theatre over 2 nights, this event once again sold out. In 2013, Emma and Gill Rowland (now co-Producer) moved the production to the much larger Lowther Pavilion theatre for 3 nights. This, and their subsequent 2015 show, drew full houses.
A 2017 concert SOLD OUT over 3 consecutive nights, raising a further £10,012.75 for the amazing Christie Charity.
In 2018 the company bravely took on their first ever full scale Musical ‘In the Heights’ for a 5 performance run - and it proved a massive success - garnering excellent reviews, thrilled audiences and no less than 6 NODA wins including Best Musical & Production of the Year.
In 2020 Gypsy was due to be staged at The Lowther Pavilion, but was cancelled following the Dress Rehearsal due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. We are immensely proud to be bringing Gypsy back to the audiences of Lytham in 2022.
Cancer has touched the lives of every single member of our cast and audience, be it directly or indirectly, we at Team Christies are proud to have the opportunity to help THE CHRISTIE HOSPITAL fight the great fight whilst also creating and performing in a project we all dearly love.
