Woofers Drive In August
Headliner: Duncan Oakley
Duncan has musical skills that would easily fit into many rock bands and performs an infectious mix of musical comedy and stand up that has seen him become one of the leading headliners in the business. With an eye and ear for the silly, rude, playful and downright irritating occurrences of life Duncan musters up songs that not only make you laugh, they bury into the recesses of your mind and find you a humming tune with a smile on your face three days later, confused and wondering where it’s come from.Duncan has performed for nearly 10 years on the UK and international stand up circuit and an easy confidence and good natured banter make him a regular at all the best venues. Lesser musical comedians hide behind their guitars and use them as a shield but his is definitely a sword as audiences who have been slain with laughter will gladly testify!
“Unlike some musical comics who rely on a guitar to get them through, Oakley’s routine deftly mixes the tunes with the stand-up” City Life
“Pure brilliance” Yorkshire Evening Post.
After starting comedy in late 2009, Scott Bennett has rapidly established himself as one of the fastest rising stars on the UK circuit. Likeable, with a warm and engaging delivery, he is a Yorkshire live wire with an undeniable no nonsense logic. In demand by many of the big clubs, Scott delivers wry observations on the absurdity of modern living. His sharply written routines have been delighting audiences across the country. In 2013 and 2015 he was selected to perform in the prestigious Big Value showcase show for Just the Tonic at the Edinburgh fringe, the show has previously been a springboard to success for many household names including Jason Manford and Sarah Millican. His debut hour stand up show “About a Roy: Stories about me dad” was nominated for the highly acclaimed Amused Moose Comedy Award and was selected as one of the top ten shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2015. As well as receiving rave reviews, Scott was selected to perform an extract from the show as part of the famous Mervyn Stutter’s “Pick of the Fringe Showcase”. The show also received a Best New Show nomination at the Buxton Fringe Festival.
Wonderfully witty comic observations” BBC.
Howard Read is a top class headliner and no wonder as he’s the only British comedian on the circuit who has appeared on both The Royal Variety Performance and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (NBC). In 2002, he was also the only British Nominee for the prestigious Perrier Award and has gone on to be one the most gifted and reliably funny acts in the business. He might be best known for being one half (and the other half), of Big Howard, Little Howard (BBC1), the world’s first human cartoon double act but he’s also an acclaimed stand up comic. This is a rare club performance due to filming commitments and is set to be a real treat. His act packs an impressive laughs per minute ratio and this is a genuine don’t miss opportunity to laugh your socks off!
