Written and performed by comedian Olivia Pickford, ‘I Killed My Roommate’ tells the story of a woman simmering beneath the surface of the frustrations of everyday life and surviving yet another passive aggressive post it note from her insufferable roommate.
Until this particular mundane Monday arrives- the day she accidentally goes into a Tourette’s support group instead of her anger management group and comes home to find her roommate has hidden cameras around the flat. Equal parts confessional, character comedy and twisted logic, this darkly hilarious hour charts one woman’s descent from natural everyday grievance to full blown homicidal rage. “She didn’t start the day as a murderer” but sometimes the only thing between a woman and a violent outburst is 30g of chocolaty puffed rice. The show is a cathartic scream into the void for anyone who’s been told to calm down, smile more and feels like the world is conspiring to annoy them.
It’s part stand up, part meltdown and 100% catharsis. As much as her roommate from hell, SUZIE is the catalyst for her anger it’s fair to say she takes the brunt of her rage.
“Isn’t it funny how we always hurt the people closest to us. Not my fault she had the room next to me”.
